Laune Water Level Information

2010 Season:  17th January to 30th September.
Water Height:  As of Saturday 13th March at Summer Low to .5 foot on the gauge.

No news of fish as you would expect with such low water.

Spring Fishing has gotten off to a slow start on the Laune.  No news of fish off Laune Anglers waters as yet but it is early days yet.  Danny Joy had a fish in February last year, still two weeks to go.

The Laune System produced the first three salmon of 2009 hopefully we will get off to an early start also in 2010.
Permits: The cost of daily permits is reduced on Laune Anglers waters up to the end of July also there is a reduced cost for 7 day Permits, see Permits.

Comments:  The Laune is a lake-fed river and therefore always fishable to the fly, even in prolonged dry conditions.

High water levels -- as experienced in the Spring -- favour upriver fisheries, as salmon tend to run the river on their way to the lakes.

Good water levels – not too high – are welcomed by anglers for the months of August and September. The Gauge opposite shows the river at Summer Low.

2009 Season:  17th January to 30th September.

Water Height:  As of Sunday 27th September river below 1 foot on the gauge and still falling.  Not a good level, too low for good fishing but we are never happy.

The fishing has been very good for some anglers over the past two weeks when the water started to fine down.  Some Association members had some good sport, among them Richard Barry who had fish on Friday and Saturday Mike Crowley had his first Laune fish of the year a cock fish of 9lbs.  Conor O'Mahony had a few fish the best being 11.5 lbs his fish were caught at Broderick's.  Conor said that the 11.5 lbs fish gave him the greatest play of any in 60 years of fishing now that's something.  Patrick Richard one of our French members had five fish in five days up to last Monday 21st and he lost the fish of a lifetime reckoned to be 18 lbs.  On Monday 21st Ted Buckley had his first fish on the fly this year.  Karl Kohler fishing Cameron's also lost a great fish in the region of 16 lbs.  Keith Dennehy had a nice fish on Beat 3 at the Island.  Richard Barry did the business again on Saturday 26th first he returned a small fish to be rewarded at dusk with a lovely fresh fish of 6 lbs.  Michael Burke had two fish and Richard Peard one also on Saturday. Billy Downes caught a lovely fresh fish of 8 lbs also late that evening.  Sinead Downes caught her first fish of the year on the worm on Thursday 24th.

Noel Burke Tralee caught a fine brown trout of 5 lbs on the fly fishing off Johnston's High Bank on Friday 19th June.

The Laune System produced the first three salmon of 2009 and Danny Joy's fish in February is the earliest in a number of years from Laune Anglers' Waters.
