River Works 2007 |

|
This was kicked off in February with new decking and handrails to the bridge over Caol Stream this was done by Richard Barry and Billy Downes. Kierans Breen's Fishery: is a highly under utilised extensive and accessible bit of Left hand bank fishing. Its accessible because there were three of the heaviest days of work ever done on our waters done there early in the year. This was led by Jerome Dowling supported by John Whelan, Tommy Hurley, Mike Collins, Chris Dowling and Billy Downes. You can now drive in through the farm and right down to the bank of the river. Replacing Bridge to The Rock: One of our bridges got carried away and another moved during the floods of November last year. The replacement work was done by Stewart Stephens (who also supplied the transport) by Mike Crowley, Johnny Sullivan, Richard Barry and Billy Downes. Mick Spillane procured the materials and delivered them to the site. Open Day: This took place on the 6th of May and was deemed to be a success The whole Committee were involved in the delivery of the tours. Recessed entrance to Paul Connor's Car Park: This work was done by Stewart Stephens and Mick Spillane and in a significant improvement. Beat Three: There was a light cleaning of Beat 3 done by Denis O Connor and Billy Downes in May. Johnstons Bank Improvement: The November 2006 floods in the Laune caused serious bank erosion at Johnston's Dungeel. There were three places along the stretch of fishery where serious damage was done and if not seen after would lead to even more damage in future years. There were trees uprooted and along with the trees came the bank, in one place threatening to wash away one of our footbridges. This was by far the biggest undertaking of the year as it involved significant expenditure and logistics. Thanks are due to Stewart Stephens who supplied some of the materials for the works to Michael Collins, Johnny Sullivan, Martin Hurley, Billy Downes Mick Spillane and Jerome Dowling who cut the access for the machine some days before.
